We are thrilled to announce that our founder and president of Hate Is Wrong, Esera Tuaolo, has been named to Out Magazine’s prestigious 100 List for his outstanding contributions to education and LGBTQ+ inclusion. This honor highlights individuals who are making significant strides as artists, disruptors, educators, groundbreakers, innovators, and storytellers, all dedicated to creating a better world for LGBTQ+ people.
This recognition comes as no surprise to those who know Esera’s tireless commitment to fostering equality and acceptance. He has previously received four mentions on the Outsports NFL list for his unwavering efforts to promote LGBTQ+ inclusion within sports and beyond.
“My mission is to inspire, motivate, encourage, save, educate, and send out aloha into the world!“
— Esera Tuaolo
Esera’s journey from a former NFL defensive tackle to a leading advocate for LGBTQ+ rights is both inspiring and impactful. Since coming out as gay in 2002, he has dedicated his life to advocacy, facing adversity with courage and grace. While he received some hate mail, the overwhelming response was one of love and support, fueling his dedication to making a difference.
As the Executive Director of Hate Is Wrong, Esera spearheaded Minnesota’s first statewide Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) Prom this past June. The event was a monumental success, attracting 200 young people from Minnesota and neighboring states. It provided a safe and joyous space for LGBTQ+ youth and their allies to celebrate who they are without fear or judgment.
“Equality came with a price, so those who came before us need to be remembered and celebrated. As we move forward into the unknown future, know that we have the power to create a better world for all communities, not just ours.”
— Esera Tuaolo
Esera’s words resonate deeply with our mission at Hate Is Wrong. We are committed to honoring those who paved the way for progress while actively working towards a future where everyone can live authentically and freely.
